Antithyroid drugs (ATD) induced agranulocytosis
Fukata et al., Los Angeles, CA, USA, reported the effect of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (GCSF) on the recovery from agranulocytosis by ATD. In total 24 patients were investigated; 10 served as a control group, and 14 were given GCSF. Recovery time was calculated at 3 points i.e. when neutrophil count reached 500, 1000, and 5000/µl respectively. The results showed that recovery times were not different between the two groups and it is concluded that GCSF does not improve recovery from ATD induced agranulocytosis.
