John Lazarus is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Wales
College of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales and Honorary Consultant Physician
to the Bro Taf Health Authority. After early research experience in the
metabolism of antithyroid drugs he investigated the effects of lithium
on thyroid physiology and disease. While working at Columbia University,
New York, he was involved in the identification of the mitochondrial T3
receptor. In addition to publishing on many different aspects of clinical
thyroidology he has been the head of the group investigating the clinical,
immunological and physiological aspects of postpartum thyroid disease for
the last 7 years and has authored over 150 scientific publications. He
is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of The European Thyroid Association.
