Clinical Manifestations of Hypothyroidism
Since thyroid hormones affect every organ function and because the degree of the deficit may be variable, clinical manifestations have to be considered in various settings according to intensity of the deprivation in thyroid hormone and the age of the patient. Clinical manifestations will be considered first in adults, then in the pediatric context. Three grades of hypothyroidism will be defined before the peripheral effects of thyroid hormone deficiency on the main organs and tissues are considered.
