| Wilmar M. Wiersinga MD is Professor of Endocrinology and Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the Academic Medical Center at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He worked as a research fellow with Professors I.J. Chopra and D. Solomon at the UCLA. He organized several International Thyroid Symposia with the Amsterdam Thyroid Club, and chaired the local organizing committees of the 1994 EFES and 1996 ETA meetings in Amsterdam. He is past president of the Dutch Endocrine Society, and was member of the Council for Medical Sciences of the Netherlands Organization of Scientific Research. Current research interests are Graves' ophthalmopathy, nontoxic goiter, amiodarone and thyroid hormones, and nonthyroidal illness. Presently he serves as member of the Executive Committee of the European Thyroid Association and as Continental Editor of Clinical Endocrinology. |
